the divine road
[/center]Magic is incredibly present in Anhrefn. The people have learned to draw from the energy source, which they have named anhys, to conjure up magic. Seeing as it is drawn from the earth, the magic is based on fire, water, earth and air.
The first step in unlocking one's potential for magic is through a concept that is very difficult to grasp, based in the mage's mind. Through intense meditation, a mage must navigate through their mind and find the correct path that would lead them to tapping into their magic potential.
The four main paths of magic are...
The Mountain Road
The Sky Road
The Ocean Road
The Forest Road
The mountain road unlocks the powers of fire. The sky road grants access to the powers of wind. The ocean road allows mages to manipulate water. And finally, the forest road permits control over nature. There are other roads as well, but they are the ones less journeyed by mages. Some are forbidden, while others are rare. Some mages can travel multiple roads, but this splits their concentration, therefore lessening their mastery over the elements.
Once a mage has found a path, the journey does not end, for there is still much to learn about the magic that exists in Anhrefn. The first step in conjuring magic is traversing through the road. At first, it is difficult to grasp because the road is unfamiliar to the mage's mind. However, as they train, the roads become familiar and it becomes easier for the mind to navigate. Also, the training never ceases for a mage, for the elemental roads are long, winding, and treacherous. Only one in a hundred thousand manages to reach the end of one of the elemental roads, and those who do are considered to be the arch-mages, the most powerful title a mage can achieve.
Magic is done by concentration of gathering a mystical energy source called anhys that exists in every living thing in Anhrefn. To the average human, the energy source has no smell. It cannot be seen. And it has no feeling whatsoever. But all mages can feel anhys in a way unique to themselves. A mage can sometimes see anhys of their particular element. It can be hot, cold and dry, moist, or full of life. The better one can feel the presence of anhys, the better one has an understanding of magic and in turn, can wield it much better.
But even then, magic is still very mysterious. Such that, no one can actually wield it perfectly. But over time, tools were made so that magic could be easier controlled. These are your wands and staffs. They are the instruments of magic and most mages can be found carrying wands and staffs of all kinds of sizes. Also, there have been known weapons that are specially enchanted with a hint of magic in them, granting the weapons unique effects.
Now that you've read all there is to know about Magic in Anhrefn, you can begin your character if you decide to take the path of the mage! See you at the end of the road.
